RESTURO CONSERVATION CENTER La Venaria Realehome / News / Pinin Brambilla Barcilon, the conference for 100 years ...

1 December 2025

On 1 December 2025, a conference was held in the Aula Magna of the Centre on Pinin Brambilla Barcilon, on the day on which he would have turned 100 years old.

A central figure in the history of restoration between the 20th and 21st centuries, Pinin Brambilla arrived at the Centre in a phase of full professional maturity, called to start and direct the restoration laboratories.

Here he consolidated an approach based on rigorous observation, interdisciplinary dialogue and a method that has marked generations of restorers.

Her figure, her work and her legacy have been traced through the interventions of professionals and experts who have collaborated with her and have critically reconstructed the history of restoration in Italy over the last fifty years.

The conference was an opportunity to retrace his contribution through the places, the construction sites, the collaborations and the institutions that accompanied his work.

An archive that becomes a story and a starting point for new research

During the conference, the Centre presented the volume “Knowing how to see. The professional archive of Pinin Brambilla Barcilon”, new issue of the series “Archive”, published by CoRes.

The book collects the work of inventorying, digitization and sorting conducted in recent years and enhances a fund that Pinin had thought and built throughout his career: a living archive, full of notes, studies, photographs, construction materials.

A resource made available to the scientific community, available in paper and online version, where a significant part of the documentation is already accessible. Critical reading of this publication will open up new avenues of research: from the most complete and articulated reconstruction of his professional biography, to the analysis of individual restorations as case studies, thanks to the richness of the sources preserved and the possible connections with other institutional archives and with the works themselves.
