Multivariate Strategies for Conservation Science

Advanced chemometric methods for the processing of spectral data

THE COURSE:

  • From 23rd to 26th June 2025
  • Live online on CCR Digital Lab
  • Language: English
  • Certificate of attendance
  • Deadline for registration: 18th June 2025

THE GOALS:

  • Acquisition of basic knowledge for the selection and application of suitable row and column pretreatments
  •  Acquisition of basic knowledge regarding supervised chemometric methods
  • Acquisition of skills for the interpretation of graphical and numerical outputs
  • Acquisition of practical skills in the use of CAT chemometric software

This course, held in English, will introduce participants to the fundamentals of chemometrics, with special reference to multivariate analysis methods aimed at extracting maximum information from analytical data of spectroscopic nature in the context of cultural heritage research. Basic notions on the pretreatment of spectral profiles and principal component analysis (PCA) will be provided, and supervised methods of multivariate classification and regression will be covered in detail.

The illustration of theoretical and descriptive aspects will be supported by the discussion of a variety of applications in the cultural heritage field. This will be followed by a specific module dedicated to practical demonstrations and guided practice on the use of a free software (CAT) that will be made available to all participants.
