On August 18, the new preventive conservation project of the evocative Sala d’Armi of the Poldi Pezzoli Museum, which houses over 500 pieces of weapons and armor.

The Centre is collaborating on the project promoted by Federica Manoli, the Museum’s collection manager, for her cutting-edge expertise in the conservation of metals, leather, wood and textiles, given the multi-material characteristics of the collections kept in the Armory.

The project involved professional restorers from different operating units and, in particular, the metal restoration laboratory, coordinated by Marco Demmelbauer. Students from the University of Turin’s degree programme will also be involved, in agreement with the JRC.

The intervention

The intervention in the Sala d’Armi – made possible thanks to the generous contribution of Dr Dario Bellini, a member of the Associazione Amici del Museo Poldi Pezzoli – involves both the detailed examination of each piece on display and the drafting of the relevant conservation sheet, with graphic and photographic documentation, and maintenance and safety measures. On this occasion, case studies of particular interest or complexity may be identified for future research, analysis and intervention projects to be carried out at the JRC Laboratories.
