In memory of Nello Forti Grazzini, one of the most authoritative scholars of tapestries in the world, the international conference took place in Piacenza, at the Fondazione di Piacenza e Vigevano and the Galleria Alberoni. “From Tree tapestries to the European textile heritage between iconography and conservation” organised by the opera Pia Alberoni.
The meeting offered an important opportunity to compare history, iconography and conservation practices, with the participation of leading experts in the field from prestigious international and national institutions, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Fundación Casa de Alba, the Vatican Museums, the Opificio delle Pietre Dure and the Capodimonte Museum.
The Centro Conservazione Restauro La Venaria Reale took part in the meeting with Roberta Genta, head of the Textile and leather Materials and Manufactures Area, who presented the experiences and challenges faced in the restoration of the tapestry Our Lady of Divine Love or Blessing.
Built at the beginning of the 16th century in the Brussels factory on cardboard from a work by Raffaello Sanzio and coming from the Museo Pontificio Santa Casa di Loreto, the tapestry underwent a complex restoration project that made it possible to deepen its technical knowledge and experiment with advanced conservation strategies for the conservation of textile artefacts.
