For the new set-up of the oriental collection of the Civic Museum P. A. Garda of Ivrea “Kachō Flowers and birds in oriental art”, was entrusted to the Laboratory of Textile Manufactures of the JRC La Venaria Reale a nucleus of 6 extraordinary fabrics of Japanese origin. The whole is characterised by a particular richness both in terms of types and of materials and executive techniques attributable to the Edo period.
The restoration involved cleaning, textile consolidation, structural stabilization of degrades such as lacerations and gaps, through inserts of crepeline specially dyed silk, favoring the characteristics of the original fabrics.
All the interventions were supported by a diagnostic plan by the JRC Scientific Laboratories, aimed at deepening knowledge of the materials in place and the main degradation phenomena.
