Second meeting of the cycle of appointments STORE THE MEMORY. The JRC archives
LUISA VERTOVA (1920-2021). The international culture of an out-of-the-ordinary art historian
She was an art historian specialising in Italian Renaissance painting and Caravaggio scholar. Dopo gli studi specialistici in Italia e Germania, all’indomani della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, divenne assistente di Bernard Berenson con il quale collaborò a numerose pubblicazioni e all’ordinamento della fototeca de I Tatti. After Berenson’s death in 1959, he worked for over 20 years at Christie’s auction house in London, Milan, Florence and Rome as a specialist in the Old Master Paintings and Drawings section. Its rich photo library is now preserved at the Fondazione Zeri in Bologna. The archival material relating to his work with Berenson was awarded to I Tatti, The Harvard University Center for Renaissance Studies in Florence and the entire library to the JRC ‘La Venaria Reale’.
