RESTURO CONSERVATION CENTER La Venaria Realehome / Seminars and conferences / Laser applications in Restoration – APLAR 2026

From 30 September to 2 October 2026

30 September – 2 October 2026

After the success of the previous editions, the conference on APplications LASer in Restauro (APLAR) arrives this year in the areas of excellence of the ‘La Venaria Reale’ Restoration Conservation Centre.

In this framework, a symbol of the integration of scientific research and conservation practice, a debate will be held on the latest technological frontiers applied to cultural heritage.

This year’s edition aims to deepen theradiation-matter interaction, aiming at the establishment of increasingly stringent standard protocols and safety thresholds.

Alongside the development of the new active fibre lasers, the conference will critically analyse the use of established solid-state sources – such as Q-Switched (QS), Long QSwitched (LQS), Short Free Generation (SFR) and Free Running (FR) – which operate with different pulse durations to respond to the complexity of the constituent materials and substances to be removed. The aim will be to deepen the discussion on these sources, which can now be defined as ‘traditional’, stimulating further technological research in order to improve their energy efficiency, reduce their size and environmental impact.

Ample space will also be devoted to active fiber lasers, one of the most advanced and rapidly spreading technologies, but which requires solid scientific support regarding the choice of the most suitable sources, energy and radius geometries so that they are selective and controllable. Unlike traditional solid-state lasers (such as the 1-30 Hz Nd:YAG), these systems use rare-earth doped fibers and very high-frequency (20-4000 kHz) diode sources.

The study days will critically analyse the control methods used so far, during and after the intervention to ensure selectivity and refine the management of operational criticalities.

🔸Guided tours will be organised at the CCR Laboratories “La Venaria Reale”.

🔸The conference will be in Italian and English.

Active Fiber Laser Course

The Restoration Conservation Centre ‘La Venaria Reale’, in collaboration with El.En. Group S.p.A., proposes an advanced level specialization course on the use of technologies Active Fiber Laser (AFL) applied to Cultural Heritage.

The course proposes a course on safety, theoretical lessons and practical lessons, in which teachers will guide the setting of operational parameters and the evaluation of results based on scientific protocols and real cases, offering an important moment of direct discussion dedicated to the operational needs and case studies brought by the participants themselves.
