38-AL-2006_Nichelino, Hunting lodge by Stupinigi, Coffee table, inv. 726
Facilitated description:
The small table attributed to the workshop of Ravelli is a wooden piece of furniture made at the end of the 1700s.
The table is kept at the Hunting Palace of Stupinigi.
The Centro Conservazione e Restauro La Venaria Reale restored the coffee table in 2006-2007 after the discovery of the piece of furniture. The table was stolen in 2004.
The restorers carried out a cleaning (cleaning the surface from the dirt deposited over time).
The coffee table had gaps (missing parts) in the wooden cladding.
The restorers supplemented (filled the gaps) with wooden tiles.
They supplemented the holes caused by xylophagous insects (insects that feed on wood) with beeswax.
In the end they painted the coffee table to protect it from the sun's rays and dust.
Abstract of the intervention:
The restoration of the table attributed to the Ravelli workshop was completed in 2007 under the supervision of Pinin Brambilla Barcilon. The intervention was carried out on the occasion of the discovery of the nucleus of works stolen from the Hunting Palace of Stupinigi in 2004. After the restoration, the work was relocated to the Palazzina.
Restoration
The work was subjected to surface cleaning differentiated according to the types of material. Subsequently, the paving lifts were glued and the integrations with paint and watercolors were carried out. The most obvious grouting of the flicker holes was carried out with pigmented beeswax. Finally, a protective coating was carried out.
