Facilitated description
The work "Madonna with Child and Saints" by Simone da Corbetta, today known as "Madonna with Child, St. Catherine, St. Ursula, St. George and the devout Theodoric of Chur" is a torn fresco (a restorer has transported the pictorial layer from the original support, the wall, to a different support, in this case a canvas) of 1382 preserved at the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan.
The restorer Pinin Brambilla Barcilon restored the work in 1991 under the direction of Rosalba Tardito Amerio.
The fresco was damaged and had many gaps (missing parts).
During the transport (transfer of a painting from an old support to a new one) of the fresco from the wall to the canvas, carried out in a previous restoration, some parts had been lost.
During the new restoration, the restorer Pinin Brambilla removed the dust to clean the frame (structure that supports the canvas of the painting) and the frame.
He filled the missing parts with a grout (a white layer of gypsum and glue that stretches inside a lack and forms a smooth and uniform base on which to paint the additions).
Finally, the restorer has retouched the painting with watercolor colors.
