42-CR-2008_Moncalieri, Castello, G. Capello, Queen's bed

Facilitated description:

The Queen's bed is a four-poster wooden bed (bed with fabric cover).
Gabriele Capello made the bed in 1852-1853.
The bed is kept at the Castle of Moncalieri.
The La Venaria Reale Conservation and Restoration Center restored the bed in 2008 after the fire of some rooms of the Castle of Moncalieri.
The restorers cleaned the fabric parts with a small vacuum cleaner.
They dismantled the fabric parts.
Then they disassembled and cleaned the wooden parts.

Abstract of the intervention:

Intervention

The maintenance and safety work on the bed of the Queen of Moncalieri Castle was carried out following the fire and the collapse of the vault on 5 April 2008. The dismantling of the textile decorative apparatus took place in concert with the operations of the restorers of wooden furnishings engaged in the removal of the structure of the canopy.
The first intervention involved a first cleaning of the textiles by means of macro and micro suction to remove the substantial deposits of foreign material. In addition, temporary storage has been arranged by means of padding and interleaving in tissue paper to avoid the rubbing of the fibres.
After the removal of the textile parts, the canopy was dismantled and secured by ropes tied to the scaffolding. To remove the dome-shaped upper element, the two iron rods anchored to the wall supporting the lower part had to be sawn off. Finally, to detach the second element of the canopy, a series of metal tie rods were unscrewed.
