Abstract of the intervention:
The restoration of the game table of the Sala delle Tre Finistre of the Castello di Masino was carried out on the occasion of the exhibition Genius and mastery. Furniture and cabinetmakers at the Savoy court between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries at the Reggia di Venaria (Sala delle Arti, 17 March - 15 July 2018).
Restoration
The intervention aimed to restore the aesthetic harmony of the artifact. Initially, the particulate deposit was removed, which grayed the surface and waxy residues were eliminated. The inlays have been integrated with the same wooden species, while it has been chosen not to intervene on the profiles of the slightly incomplete supports. The missing tablet decorations were reproduced by means of silicone casting and two-component epoxy-based stucco casting. The reproduction of the ornament on the front of the drawer was performed by means of a cotton thread soaked in plaster and glue, adhered to the trace of the drawing on the display. All the integrated elements have been pinstriped and chromatically adapted with watercolor. Finally, a protective layer was applied to the entire surface.
