After four days of intensive work, an important collaborative project between the TAREA Restoration Centre of the School of Art and Heritage (National University of General San Martín – UNSAM) and the Centre for Conservation and Restoration (CCR) ‘La Venaria Reale’ was successfully concluded. This joint effort focused on the pictorial collection of the Residence of the Ambassador of Italy in Argentina.

During the project, a detailed conservative filing of the works was carried out, integrated with environmental monitoring. This included measuring relative humidity, temperature and ambient lighting using a luxmeter. On the basis of these data, a diagnosis was drawn up which made it possible to define the intervention priorities for the canvas paintings in the Italian Embassy’s collection.

The team was led by Damasia Gallegos, director of the TAREA Centre, and was attended by Paola Buscaglia, head of the Wood Sculpture Laboratory, and the JRC restorer Sandra Vázquez. In addition, 12 students and 3 teachers of the TAREA Center participated, with all their talent and commitment.

This initiative, supported by the Italian Embassy in Argentina and with the support of the ITA Trade Agency in Buenos Aires, underlines the importance of combining skills and perspectives to preserve cultural heritage in a framework of international cooperation.

Participants in the project included Martina Scoccimarro, a student in Conservation and Restoration at the National University of General San Martín – UNSAM, who took part in the fourth edition of the Young Professionals Forum – How leadership, strategy and networking operate on preventive conservation.
