Since its establishment, one of the main aims of the Centro has been to develop and promote projects on the strategic theme of preventive conservation and over the years it has laid down operative protocols for the Residences of the Royal House of Savoy, the local museums, and more.
Preventive conservation and the residences have always been a particular focus of interest, which has led the Centro to work with the Polytechnic of Turin, international partners such as the Association des Résidences Royales Européenne (ARRE), the Palace of Versailles, the Royal Palace of Wilanow near Warsaw, and ICOM Italia.
With these international partners, the EPICO – European Protocol In Preventive Conservation project was developed, with the specific aim of devising a protocol for analysing the state of conservation of the collections kept at historic residences.
Preventive conservation projects are currently underway on the Reggia di Venaria and the Palazzina di Caccia of Stupinigi, where pest management protocols are also being implemented, as well as at the Castle of Rivoli, the FAI Residences, Villa Petraia in Florence and the Reggia di Caserta.
The Centro conducts training courses specifically developed to meet the demands of residence-museums, to provide management and staff with the tools and procedures necessary for introducing preventive conservation practices into the everyday life of museums.
The experience and specific procedures developed by the Centro, which are of great assistance to museum curators in recognising the risks and monitoring any alterations in the collections, can be consulted in a volume published with the contribution of the Compagnia di San Paolo, which supports the Centro in its preventive conservation programs, scheduling conservative works on the collections kept at the residences.
